Luccarelli Primitivo Puglia Red 2002

Puglia is in the South of Italy, located in the "heel" portion of the country. Primitivo, which is believed to be an ancestor to Zinfandel, is grown and made into lush, fat, cherry-fruit-laden reds which are best drunk young.

The aromas and flavors are decidedly cherry red, with some vanilla and spice, and a hint of sweet anise. We enjoyed it this Thursday evening with Baked Cheese Tortolini and red sauce.

The closure is a genuine cork.

At $9.99 (Nashville price), this is an anytime Italian red wine that most people will enjoy.
