Ridge Geyserville Sonoma County Zinfandel 2002

Here is a blend of 84% Zinfandel, 12% Carignane, and 4% Petite Sirah.  Geyserville is on the Western edge of Sonoma's Alexander Valley.  The initial vintage for this wine was 1966.

This year, it is dense, nearly opaque purple toned in the glass. Cedary oak and dark fruit aromas give way to dried fruit and bittersweet chocolate on the palate. The acidity and tannins are moderate. The finish is warm and velvety. Sophisticated; could be mistaken for a Cab. We paired it with a grilled New York Strip.

The closure is a genuine cork.

At $25 (Nashville), this is a good value.
