Hendry Block 15 Napa Valley Petite Verdot 2002 - Wine Blogging Wednesday #15

Only 47 cases of 375 ml bottles (equivalent to 23.5 cases of 750 ml bottles) of Hendry Petite Verdot 2002 were produced. Word has it that George Hendry is especially fond of his PV.

The vineyard block is less than 4 acres, of which most of the wine goes into Hendry's Red Blend.  The best of the best Petite Verdot was selected, and Hendry aged it in new French Oak.

95.5 points. Color: almost opaque, purple-crimson. Aromas: Ripe, intense, cherry fruit, vanilla, gravel, violets, and spicy oak overtones. Substantial velvety tannins and a cherry fruit driven palate lead to a dry finish reverberating fruit and oak. Excellent balance between fruit, extraction, and oak. Here is a very big red experience, yet ready-to-drink and seemingly very wholesome/natural.

Closure: Real cork.  (A screw cap would be an improvement.)

Retail: $25/375ml. Value: Outstanding.
