Joseph Phelps Vineyards Innisfree Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2002
Joseph Phelps Innisfree Cabernet 2002 was a special private label bottling available through a group of large independent US wine retailers. This wine was released a year ago, but with the press surrounding JPV Insignia 2002 (Wine Spectator's Wine of the Year 2005, 95 points), this wine deserves a review.
Insignia 2002 is 78% Cabernet, retails for $150, or 7.5 times the price of Innisfree. 90 points. Color: Deep ruby red, semi-opaque. Aromas: Sweet cherries, cassia/spice, light spicy oak, citrus rind and hints of gravel. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied with fine gripping tannins and nice acidity. Ripe cherries and spicy oak flavors mingle with dutched cocoa and hints of black olive. The finish is dusty/tannic, somewhat oaky, warm and tart. Closure: Real cork. Retail: $20. Value: Excellent. Food pairing: Ribeye steak with roasted vegetables. |

My bad. Thank you! brotherspeed for the correction. Unfortunately, I did not get a taste of the Insignia.
