Rodney Strong Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon 2002

Rodney Strong 2002 Cabernet is 91% Cabernet, plus Merlot and Cab Franc.

The source of the grapes was primarily Alexander Valley, along the Russian River north of Healdsburg. Aging was 16 months in 69% American, 30% French oak. Rick Sayre is Winemaker.

88.5 points. Color: Deep candy apple red, translucent. Aromas: Cedary oak, cherries, cassis, mocha, and hints of dusty earth. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with moderate dry tannins and tart acidity. Tightly wound red and black fruit flavors are slow to evolve from the rustic, cedary oak tannic finish. Give it time to open.

Closure: Real cork.

Retail: $15.

Food Pairing:  Grilled Angus Burger.
