Cat's Phee is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc from a number of vineyards. Individual lots were fermented separately in stainless steel, prior to blending.
Tasting Notes: Color: Pale straw. As you would expect, this is an aromatic Sauvignon Blanc, even by New Zealand standards. And yes, there is plenty of gooseberry in the nose, along with grapefruit-lime citrus and a botanical note similar to starfruit. On the tongue, Cat's Phee is light and crisp, with racy acidity, grapefruit, lemon and green apple flavors. The finish is crisp and refreshing. Closure: Screw cap. |

I was just in NZ two days ago (spent an afternoon tasting wines in the Waipara region). In the two weeks we were there, I can't believe we missed such a fantastic sounding wine! I'll definitely have to go in search of a bottle.

I'm not a good sport when it comes to inane, and in this case, infantile names made up to get a wine attention. And you made it through the entire review without flinching once, which I must commend you for! Maybe if we ignore it, the trend will go away. Ah, marketing... Still I can't help but wonder how come it's a bit censored in America ("Cat's Phee") while in Kiwiland it's just ("Cat's Pee")?
...my blog commenting has just reached an all-time low...

This label seemed to be pretty silly when first spotted at Knoxville's Turkey Creek Wines. But after further research, it seems we may have to give credit to Coopers Creek for being early with this "inane" labeling, because it appears they have been in market with it since the late 1990's. It doesn't seem to be a "jump on the bandwagon" thing, as much as "leading the parade". And, it was surprising to learn that Kim Crawford made wine at Coopers Creek long before starting his own, now very successful, label.
