Elderton Tantulus Shiraz Cabernet 2003

Elderton Tantulus Shiraz Cabernet 2003

The 2003 vintage was #7 for Tantulus, but the first to be produced at Elderton's new winery facility, in Nuriootpa, just northeast of Adelaide.

Tasting Notes:  Color: Deep ruby red, translucent. Aromas: Cherry, blueberry, sweet spice, hints of smoke and cedar glade. There is a slight sensation of sweetness on the front of the tongue, turning dry and tart with medium body and mild smooth tannins. Cherry and oak flavors are supported by pepper and hints of cocoa as the wine finishes with plenty of length.

Closure: Screw cap.

Very nice value ($14).

Importer to the USA is The Australian Premium Wine Collection.

*As described by Elderton, Tantulus is the mythological Greek figure who was punished for offending the Gods by being kept perpetually hungry and thirsty, while tantalised by fruit and water he could see but not reach.

Comments

Well you've certainly tantalized me. This sounds great. I feel like I've just discovered Shiraz/Cab Sauv blends because the last few I've tasted definitely have been greater the sum of their parts. Hope to get more like these.
