Hewitson Ned & Henry's Barossa Shiraz 2004 is primarily Shiraz, with a small portion of Mourvedre blended in. The wine was aged about 15 months in French oak. Low-yielding "vineyards grown on red soil over limestone" were tapped for making "Ned & Henry's".
Dean Hewitson is Winemaker, and Ned & Henry are his two sons, a couple of years apart in age. Hewitson's wines are imported by The Australian Premium Wine Collection.
| Tasting Notes. Get ready for purple teeth, as the color is deep purple crimson, nearly opaque. This Australian Shiraz is a dark, rich and lush example, with aromatic cassis, blackberry and raspberry fruit essences, supported by baking spice, and hints of chocolate and forest floor. On the tongue, it is medium-bodied with substantial polished tannins. Dark fruit, nutmeg spice, cocoa, citrus peel, and pepper flavors linger in a warm finish that evolves oak.
Closure: Screw cap. Very nice value ($16 on sale at Turkey Creek Wine, Knoxville). |
