| It seems that wine is a ubiquitous subject these days, and a wine glass can be seen in the hands of tons of celebrities and "baby boomers". No surprise, existing wine shops are constantly "raising the bar", and new ones open every day. So it was very fitting that Dr. Vino host this month's Wine Blogging Wednesday, with the theme: "wine shops that feel the love". | ![]() |
Jerry travels a lot, and because he provides website and email marketing services for Frugal MacDoogal Wine Warehouse in his home base of Nashville, the decision was made to profile a relatively new wine store in Knoxville, Tennessee. Turkey Creek Wine & Spirits is located in Knoxville's Western suburbs, just off I-40, near the Campbell Station Road (Farragut) exit.

Turkey Creek isn't the biggest store, with about 10-12,000 square feet, but the emphasis on wine and the upbeat vibe is something to love. On this visit, the people were friendly, knowledgeable, and "into" their product. There were plenty of "new-to-me" selections to take back home to Nashville.

There are a variety of display techniques employed, as well as attractive lighting and neon signage inside. Take note of the "In Vino Veritas" neon sign, which has the translation under it: "In Wine There Is Truth".

Bottles lay flat, are staged in the round, stand up, and get cozy under halogen lighting.

What's more, their prices are very attractive for Tennessee, where taxes are high and competition is thwarted by laws that don't allow chain stores to sell wine.
Within the past week, Winewaves has posted 3 wines purchased at Turkey Creek, and several upcoming posts will feature wines from there as well. Check previous posts on: Ménage à Trois Rosé, Soirée Oregon Pinot Noir, and El Coto Rosé.
When in the Knoxville area, do drop in to Turkey Creek Wine & Spirits.

WOW! That place is huge! Nice write-up.
I love your Blog & you are in Tennessee too!
I just found it & got i bookmarked.
Here's to many more posts & much more wine!
Cheers,
Collin

When I was living alone in Oak Ridge, as mentioned on my welcome page, I bought one bottle of wine during my entire 50 week stay. It was at Turkey Creek. My wife and I finally wound up moving to Massachusetts and I wish that we could have taken this wine shop with us.

Anyone notice the track lighting spotlights on the wine? Any feedback from the store about how that might affect wine quality? I personally would love to spotlight wine in my shop, but at the expense of light-affected juice, it doesn't seem right. Anybody have thoughts on that?
