Lincourt Santa Barbara Pinot Noir 2004

The price is up with the 2004 vintage.  This is the new economics of Pinot Noir. You'll probably agree, better they maintained the purity and high quality and raised the price, than to cheapen the quality to maintain last year's price.

Lincourt* Pinot Noir 2004 is 100% Pinot Noir, 6/10 from Santa Maria Valley (Solomon Hills Vyd) and 4/10 from Foley's Rancho Santa Rosa in Santa Rita Hills. Aging was 14 months in 1/4 new French oak. 3,478 cases were produced. Alan Phillips and Maurice Boyd head the winemaking effort at Lincourt.

Tasting Notes. Color: Cranberry, semi-opaque (unfiltered looking). Aromas: Bright red berries, cherry, plum, baking spices, lime, vanilla and forest floor. Chocolatey smooth on the tongue, the copius tart fruit combines with sweet spices and the finish is warm and velvety.

Closure: Real cork.

Very nice value ($24).

*Lincourt was named for Bill Foley's daughters, Lindsay and Courtney.
