In case it should be called upon to work a party, an under-$10 Chardonnay should possess a little something for everyone, yet have enough character to be interesting one-on-one.

Christopher Smith and Eric Aafedt report the fruit for Bogle California Chardonnay is sourced from Clarksburg and Monterey. Partially barrel-fermented, some of the lots undergo malolactic fermentation. Lots then are aged in American oak for an about 1/2 year (+/-). Tasting Notes. Color: Light golden straw, Aromas: Peach, lemon, pineapple-upside-down-cake. Medium-bodied on the tongue, there is a lightly oily texture and lots of tartness. The flavors are mildly rounded off and there is a slight echo of oak spice in the tang-filled finish. Closure: Real cork. Excellent value ($9). |
