Four Vines Paso Robles Biker Zinfandel 2004

On the way to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, we stopped at Applejack, and spotted this 2004 "Biker" Zin from the "West Side" of Paso Robles.  Big and deep, macho and dusty, and possessing plenty of rumble, this Zin fits its name.

Four Vines Paso Robles Biker Zinfandel 2004

"Hedonist" Christian Tietje makes the "Biker" from west side Paso Robles fruit, specifically from the Dusi and Preston properties.  C.T. added a small amount of Mourvedre for a "meaty" dimension.  Tietje is part of a threesome comprising Four Vines, which includes "love-at-first-sight" Susan Mahler and financier Bill Grant.

Tasting Notes: Color: Deep candy apple red translucent.  Aromas: Blackberry, raspberry, bourbon, roasty/toasty notes, oak spice, and hints of anise (licorice).  The mouthfeel is big, chewy, dusty dry, and moderately tannic.  The black and deep red fruit flavors reverberate in the chewy dry finish.

Closure: Real cork.  Excellent value ($15).  Alcohol: 15%.  Cases produced: 2294

Excellent post! My dad and I discovered this wine on a ride through SF last year...and my wife and I had this Zin with a delicious BBQ's pepper steak yesterday. OH MAN! We actually decanted it and it got better with every drink.
