This everyday red belongs on your "go-to" list for casual reds. Marietta Owner/Winemaker Chris Bilbro turned out another successful, if not exceptional "Old Vine Red" with Lot 40. Bilbro's idea is to emulate the field blends of head-pruned old vines which were once common in Napa and the like. The blend is a Zin-heavy trinity of Zin, Petite Sirah and Carignane.

Tasting Notes: Color: Deep purple ruby, semi-opaque. Aromas: Plum, blackberry, raisin, cherry and hints of smoke. For an everyday red, there is good solid body, juicy and round, with robust tart tannins. The Cassis, blackberry and pomegranate flavors are tinted with a pleasant smokiness.
Excellent value ($12). Closure: Real cork. Alcohol Content: 13.5%.
Food pairing: Spaghetti - with as rich and meaty a red sauce as possible.
