Huntington Wine Cellars Petite Sirah 2005

"Purple stain, purple stain" describes this true-to-form inky Petite Sirah, a grape also known as Durif. Neither petite nor Syrah, here is dry fruit pie of a wine, powerful but not a bully, more like a gentle giant.

Huntington Wine Cellars Petite Sirah 2005

Huntington is part of the Wimbledon Wine Company, which also represents some well-known labels including Hahn Estates and Jessie's Grove. Bill Leigon is President of Wimbledon and has owned Healdsburg-based Huntington for almost 10 years. In 2002 Leigon created the phenomenonal Rex Goliath label as part of Hahn Estates and then sold it to Constellation Brands in late 2005.

Huntington Petite Sirah 2005 is 88% Petite Sirah, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 10 months in a mixture of new and used French oak. Barry Gnekow is the Winemaker. Cases produced: 5000.

Tasting Notes: Appearance: Deep purple semi-opaque. Aromas: Fruity southern fried apples waft off the cork first. In the glass, the aromas turn to the dried dark cherry, cassis liqueur, a little blueberry and hints of nutmeg spice. Rich and chunky with medium tannins, loads of jammy fruit bombard your taste buds and a touch of oak evolves in the lip-smacking although not overly complex finish.

Excellent value ($10). Closure: Real cork. Alcohol content: 14.1%.

Jerry,

Haven't found the Huntington Petit yet, but a neighbor brought over the Cab a few weeks ago: Yummy yummy for my tummy. At $13 and Napa fruit, it's a steal. Not the most sophisticated wine ever made, but Meg (my wife) can't get enough. Surely a good sign...

Cheers

Hi:

I love this wine. I think it is truly superb. I am not an expert but have a discerning palette. :) My local wine store has upped the price after discovering how good it is, which makes me mad. Any suggestions where to find it for $10?

You can find this wonderful wine at Randy's Fishmarket and Restaurant in Naples, Fl.
Although it isn't for 10.00

I'm glad you guys like the wine! It's my dad's winery and the best way to find it is to either visit www.wimbledonwine.com or give them a call at (707) 226-2463. Wimbledon Wine Co. is the Sales company for Huntington and a couple other great wines. Enjoy!

Love this wine! Can't get enough of it myself, only one store has it here in town and I go there often.

I found Huntington Petite Sirah at a place called 'Tastings' last fall (2007). Since then I searched my city for this wine that has become my "Favorite". I found a fab deal at Wine Warehouse. My husband even bought me a case for Christmas! It is a delight to the senses...truly a magnificient wine! Congrats to Barry Gnekow!! I better stock up --only 5000 cases were produced.
Regards,
Carol, St. Petersburg, FL
